How to add files by scanning your library folder
When to scan instead of import
Most of the time you’ll add clips with the Import assets tab. But if you’ve copied a batch of files straight into your library’s media folder yourself — say you dragged a whole shoot’s worth across in Finder — Brolla doesn’t know about them yet. That’s what scanning is for.
In the Library tab, look for Scan for new files. As Brolla puts it: “Copied files straight into this library’s media folder (including subfolders)? Scan to add them to Brolla. Each new file is renamed to include the library’s ID and registered — your folder organisation is kept.”
The handy part is that subfolders are included, so the way you like to organise your footage stays intact.
What the scan does
When you run Scan for new files, Brolla looks through the media folder and:
- Finds any new media it hasn’t seen and registers it, renaming each file to include the library’s ID so it can keep track of it.
- Reconnects files that simply moved to a new spot inside the folder, so you don’t get duplicates or broken entries.
- Ignores anything that isn’t a media file.
Reading the result
After the scan, Brolla tells you what happened — how many files were added and, if any had been shifted around, that it “reconnected” them. Non-media files are quietly left alone. If the numbers look right, you’re done; your new clips are now in the library ready to tag and search.
