File naming and import options

How imported files are named

In Settings â–¸ General, the Imported file naming option decides what your files are called on disk when you bring them into Brolla:

  • Brolla name only — Brolla gives each file a tidy name of its own.
  • Brolla name + original — Brolla’s name plus your original filename, so you keep a trace of where it came from.
  • Exact original name — keeps the filename byte-for-byte. This matters if you edit in Final Cut, Premiere or Resolve: keeping the exact name lets your editor re-link the clip to your project.

Renaming clips

There’s a toggle, Renaming a clip also renames the file on disk, which is off by default. Left off, renaming a clip changes only its label inside Brolla, while the actual file keeps its name. Turn it on if you want the file on disk to match the new name too.

Embedded keywords

Turn on Import embedded keywords as tags and Brolla reads keyword tags saved inside your files — for example from Lightroom, Photos or your camera — and turns them into tags automatically, saving you the typing.

Network-drive safe saving

If your library lives on a NAS or shared drive, leave Network-drive safe saving on (it’s on by default). It writes carefully so that a dropped Wi-Fi connection or a NAS going to sleep mid-save can’t corrupt your library.
